Explore the museum for free as a part of this annual program held during the Asian Heritage Street Celebration (http://asianfairsf.com/). We are also celebrating International Museum Day. This year’s theme, Museums for a Sustainable Society, recognizes the role of museums as important locations of cultural exchange and mutual understanding, enriching the lives of community members. In conjunction with the Asian Heritage Street Celebration and International Museum Day, the Tenderloin community’s Southeast Asian Arts & Culture Coalition (SEAACC) presents music and dance from Burma, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. The SEAACC is an organization dedicated to the diverse cultures of the Tenderloin neighborhood. Other activities include the Center for Asian American Media’s cinema showcase, docent tours and hands-on art making that will bring the museum’s masterpieces to light.

40 Years Refugees Exhibition

An Exhibition to Commemorate Vietnamese Resettlement in the US. This exhibition marks the 40th anniversary of the diaspora of the Vietnamese people and refugee resettlement. It includes stories of loss, of cultural identities of different generations struggling to co-exist, and of the process of rebuilding a new life in a foreign environment. This exhibition shares the refugee experience by celebrating the progress of the Vietnamese people worldwide through photography, historical artifacts, a speaker panel, and cultural performances. Speakers will include Mr. Dieu Khuong Huu, Mr. Phu Van Bui, and Ms. My Linh Nguyen, and cultural performers include the Su Viet Zithers and Master Vu Hong Thinh.

Mid-Autumn Harvest Festival Report - 2014

On Saturday Sept. 6th, 2014, hundreds of families from all over the Bay Area gathered at the Tenderloin Recreation Center to celebrate the 4th Annual Mid-Autumn Harvest Festival. Hosted by the Southeast Asian Arts & Culture Coalition, this event brings together local organizations from the Cambodian, Laos, Burmese, Thai, and Vietnamese community to partake in dance, music, food sampling, and historical appreciation.

On September 6th, 2014, we invite you to attend the fourth Southeast Asian Arts & Culture Exhibition celebrating the harvest season! The Exhibition helps promote and preserve the arts and culture of the Southeast Asian American communities in San Francisco, and specifically highlights the Indo-Chinese refugee communities which have a history in the Tenderloin.

SEAACC Public Forum Summit - 2014

Join SEAACC as we discuss the cultural growth and development of the Tenderloin community. How will Southeast Asian arts and history be brought into the neighborhood, and what improvements can we expect? What educational programs are you looking for? Come share your story.

Asian Heritage Street Festival

Event details: “Celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month at the10th Annual Asian Heritage Street Celebration on Saturday, May 17, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in front of the Asian Art Museum, leading up to the Little Saigon District in San Francisco. Street fair goers will have the chance to learn how to cook delicious pan Asian dishes at the AHSC cooking demonstration stage located at Ellis and Larkin Streets, by celebrity chefs including Martin Yan.

The Lunar New Year festival is based on the Lunar Calendar that many Eastern countries have followed in the past, where the New Year begins in February. This is different than the modern Western calendar where the New Year begins on January 1st.
